I have hints but most of mine are specific, i would suggets however Python as a good beginning language to start with and get used to program.
http://www.python.org is a good start. If you don't want to start with Python as it really is extremely basic just ask in Beginners Section and i'd be happy to help. By the way... You have to close your tags, for it to become in effect. IE: (color=red) (/color) (B) (/B) change the brackets for [ ] :)

I am trying to learn C currently.I also want to pick up some certifications along the way. I was a sales manager for a computer company recently. I doubled basically as a tech/sales manager. Repairs and builds that kind of stuff nothin really all that special. Some networking..setting up serveres, firewalls, that kind of stuff

You like the 24hr books dissolutions? I've never been a big fan.. Personally I have always like the bible books but I think that's because it fits my style a bit more.
I'm not much of a Lesson 1, Lesson 2, type of guy. I prefer the, here is a problem and this is a solution. So I guess it's all in a persons tastes.

Have you found that you work better under pressure (such as management or an Employer) than without, like on your own or vice versa?
comamc
May 22 2003, 01:48 PM
For me it really depends on the situation...there are times that I thrive under pressure and there are times that I want to tell the boss to let me be so I can get the job done. So that is a really hard question for me to anwser. I think that I like a mix of both to be honest. I like things to be fast paced and constantly changing...so that adds pressure in a way all on it own.

Just wanted to say hi.In to cycling and of course computers.Which basically somes up my life. I was studying for a CCNA but realised that you just cant work ten hour days and then go to night school.Come to the conclusion that i have to give up work and go in to full time education. Just have installed Linux so i will be playing with that and i trying to learn about IIS hacking so going to have to install that on my network and i want to learn to programme either Python or Visual Basic. Would like to say thanks for making this site. it's simply the best Security site on the web.Sorry i dont post much but hopefully when we get some more newbie's i can help them out. Got a killer hang over and now i meant to be off to race the European Courier Champs so i will stop waffling

GeSecur, Not sure what you're getting at in this topic, or is it just the obvious?
Not sure I want to say what I do or give out too much info. Of course, pieces leak out in posts, but that's the price of community.
I ran antivirus for a previous company--which I declared in my last post. Other than that, you never know who else might be looking at this board and could put the leaks together and pretty soon, you're looking at Deep Throat (now you can peg my era. Rats!).
Other than that, this is a great board! I like the way you handle posts, the good and the bad (look Ma, no all caps!). Lotsa good info too.

I work best under pressure, definitely. I really have to create a crisis sometimes just to catch up on all that I need to do.
I really think there's gotta be some chemical release that enables the brain to think and react quickly and accurately when pressed (no, it's not mary jane, folks, and I don't think andreniline (sp) trips the trigger either).
Maybe it's just the way we're wired, cuz lotsa people freak when the pressure hits.

I 100% absolutely agree with you when i let things pile up before deadlines I get it done more effective, and better than If i would have taken my time.
By the way When I started this thread it was meant to get people used to post you can see a few I've started around here... the tips section in Beginners Section was meant for that but nobody seems to post to it. And I can only find so many cool tips. But just to get people used to people on the forum etc and for people that are wanting to get into IT to learn a bit about what Job duties what opportunities are available etc...
Sorry if you feel this as a Security Risk but I understand where you are coming from.

When people ask me how to get a job (IT or otherwise), I always tell them to go volunteer or intern any place that will let them get a foot in the door. Especially true in today's economy.
If you're a good worker with good ideas, it will show no matter whether you're typing or sweeping floors. You'll always can suggest improvements which may make an impact. But more importantly, you'll be gaining experience that you can use on the next step of the stairs.
My first job was typing up a manual that was used for making and packaging food. I was working for a temp agency. After the second week (it was a long manual), I started making suggestions regarding how to make the manual better, more readable, and more effective. My manager would say, that's a good idea, go back and apply that to all the previous chapters.
By the sixth week, I was put in charge of the project, working with the engineers and plant personnel, and ended up flying across the country by myself to the plant to help train people on the machine and the process. All while working as a temporary. Eventually, they gave me a year contract to finish the project, and then another department contracted with me to do theirs. It was a great 2 years.
Sure, I could have stayed a typist, but if you're gonna make a pittance, you might as well have some fun while building up your skills. That same process has happened in almost every job I've every had; started out with one responsibility and lower pay, which soon turned into a lot of responsibility with higher pay. Both in technical jobs and in other jobs, like tree-farming, fast-food, etc.
Bottom line: if you work hard, play on the team, and try to advance your co-workers and your company, the company will advance you.
So many folks are out for themselves and don't realize they're doing it backwards. When you stomp all over others while trying to get ahead, you always have to be looking over your shoulder. When you focus on bettering others, others will focus on bettering you. It's an endless cycle. And more reliable than even a Harley.

Man I'm hooked to this place . Never did I come across a forum which is so 'open' in terms of hacking and its likes. That is what I really like about this place. And thanks to all the great people here, now I really know what hacking is about (I think ) Anywayz, about myself. I'm a fresh graduate of Internet Science and Technology with a major in Internet Applications. I've done most of the popular programming languages like C/C++, Java, php, VB.NET at an Intermediate level. I also remeber doing a little bit of perl, but really don't remeber much What I like is, no not programming, Networking and its likes. Even though I've done three modules in Networking and Information Security, I haven't got a chance to try me hands on a proper network with around 20+ nodes (Cause the University of Wollongong cannot facilitate such services ). Hence I thought of doing CCNA so that I could enhance my skills and get 'hands-on'. That's it ... cherio !

I know it's a fine line we dance here The reason why we have been able to keep such an open forum is because of the maturity of the members. You guys read the rules and follow them which is great. That's allowed the GSO team to keep the forum from spiraling down into just another script kiddie site. Also the advanced level of the posts here has scared away most people seeking the "easy hack". | QUOTE | | Cause the University of Wollongong cannot facilitate such services ). |

Net Admin/Server Config Managment for a Pretty decently sized Network. Support about 6500-7000 users. Connected to another network that has many many many more users. Been doing this for 1.5 years and would honestly not trade my job for anything in the world. I love the daily challanges and learn at least one new thing daily. I used to work on Airplanes, but that was boring and repetitive. I was always into computers in general, just not the extent that I am now. Future Goals are to become more proficient, learn as much as I can about everything..broad I know!!

I'm currently studying Computing for Internet and Multimedia in Aberdeen, only 3 years away from that degree now I'm trying to find a job in computing on a part time basis as I really m fed up with the hundreds of obs involving a till and being plesant to old women who seem to have lost their purse My interests lie in Un*x variants. I run NetBSD, SuSE, Debian and Slackware on my machines at home, with of course the obligatory Windows XP box. I also find myself being interested in PHP and mySQL...and so I quickly found myself running a PHP message board constantly trying to make mods for the system (WoltLab Burning Board/vBulletin) trying to make something that will have an impact on the community....but alas I'm not there yet Love this site (granted I only found it yesterday), but it looks like a great place and I'll probably find mysef spending quite some time here. Here i have learned abit from everyone and thanks alot for that!
I am currently starting to learn to program Im gonna try Python the eventualy C++ but i really think that Perl is what i wanna know.
Great to have found this site. It does show the diffrence between the skiddys and the people willing to learn.
