Hey gary I had to delete most of your post. I want you to have a good time here but let's try to be reasonable. Posting an entire IRC log about why someone is a penis is a bit extreme. Besides that welcome to the board everyone.

Hey everyone, I'm Dave and just signed up yesterday. I just happened across this site (I can't remember the link I clicked and from where) and I just want to say how impressed I am! The site is well organized, it looks visually appealing, and from what I have read, people are very polite and respectful. I'm very interested in computers, and I plan to make Network security and stuff my career. (I'm still in High School BTW, but planning on college after I graduate next year some time) I'm certainly no expert, however, as Jimi Hendrix once said, (I'm a guitar player too!) "Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens." Most places I've been too, are just full of BS and crap and flaming and total nonsense. A great thread about encryption ends up within 3 posts turning into a bunch of ppl yelling at eachother and making derogitory comments. Anyways, enough with my chitter chatter, I'm proud to become a member of this site, and I hope I can be part of its future! And just remember all you fellow security minded ppl, "Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're not out to get you!" (A quote I picked up from a different bulliten board from someones signature, I can't remember who it was though, so I can't give them credit... sorry) Take care, and practice 'safe hex' you all!

Hi. Some of you might have seen me around here a few times already, and I'm here to stay. I'm quite new (depending on whom to compare with) on the general subject of security, but I've just recieved my 5 books I ordered, making it possible for me to gain and expand my knowledge. My experiences and current cunnings are; VB (Visual Basic 6) - Soon .NET ASP.NET Borland C++ Builder 6.0 (That being said, ofcourse I know some basic C++) General Administration of Windows networking (I'm a summerpracticant on the IT-Depart. of Besam) If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, just ask. btw; If there's any security issues regarding Google.com you'd like to know about, ask me.. I'm an endless resource when it comes to google

Oh, I should have rephrased that message.. What I meant was, if you'd like to know how google can be used in manners not known to many people, then you could ask. I.e. get valuable information to get into webservers, databases , gain passwords etc etc. I posted a long message (two actually) about google's searchengine.

| QUOTE | | I run XP because I'd have to delete the whole partition to install FreeBSD onto it (damn NTFS), |
That is not true. I ran XP on my laptop for a few months before having time to install freebsd on it. I just used partition magic to cut off 20 GB from the ntfs partition and use that to install freebsd. Then, when u install freebsd, it installs the boot manager so you can dual boot. Though if you need to share things between the 2 partitions, your SOL. FreeBSD doesnt quite mount ntfs properly, so you have to mount it as read only so that nothing is messed up. As for XP, it wont even attempt to try to read a non FAT or NTFS partition.

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude theres an actual introduction thread (/me likes) ahem *puts on serious face* I am Kuun (Kuun stands for Purifying in Higarran in the awesome game called Homeworld) I am 19 years old.. touched my first computer at the age 4. Magnavox Headstart 286 20 MHZ and a whopping 40mb harddrive! I bacame a dos monkey at a very early age. Computer have always been an interest to me.. I have spent most of my life taking every computer i could find apart and putting it backtogether.. just because i can I have perfected my method of computer hardware building.. now.. im onto the software side. I am a security freak, i want to be as secure as technologically possible. I love to learn and read about exploits, viruses, and worms.. they all fascinate me tremendously.. and lets not forget hearing someone say "im gonna hack you" i wanan know every possible way how. that way i can prevent it I have just recently gained enough "book knowledge" to say.. im not completely stupid i finally understand how the internet actually works (the 3-way handshake, protocols, exploits, pinging, ports yadda yadda) it's all very fascinating. anyhow. i don't have much info to provide, but lots to gain and as a brilliant man once told me "if there is a way out, ther IS a way in" Kuun

you know..
i found this place by searching for "rpc dcom worm" found the DCOM exploit.. and a detailed set of instructions...
my first thought was.. uh oh.. crackers.. but i see it's alot more complicated than that..
BTW.. if you aren't learning.. you aren't human
as my 70 yr old grandfather told me.. you always learn... even if it's RE-learning
