I have Sony Ericsson T610, and it's mostly enough for my needs. I used to have Nokia 5110 a year ago, which is a pretty good phone with its receiving. I realized when comparing my old and new phone the truth that old phones are better than new ones

I have a Motorola v710: The fone itself is good, just verizon crippled some of its bluetooth features to force its customers into paying for their content (ringers, games, etc..) I reflashed its firmware to re-enable most of the features. Also changed the WAP address from their pay-for server to my own proxy, so I can surf the web for free on it, just pay for airtime. Another cool thing I like about the service is I connect my fone to my laptop via bluetooth, and get close to broadband speeds (~150KB down, some latency tho), paying just for airtime, and I get free airtime after 9 and on weekends. The fone has a slot for a transflash card that goes up to 512mb. I re-encoded some tv shows I like and threw them on there, and a few albums. Heres a few links for anyone interested in the firmware hacks: http://motov710.blogspot.com/http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=254

Motorola V3 RAZR http://direct.motorola.com/ENS/web_product...productid=29302 The main thing that attracted me to this phone was it's sleek design. I also liked the features that were offered with this model such as: Mpeg-4 Video Playback 802.11b(Bluetooth) Digicam with 4 x Zoom Built in Speakerphone The size of the LCD and it's resolution were also taken into consideration. All in all, I like this phone.

Digital spirit whats the actually battery life like on that phone? (not the advertised fake one). My siemens C65 had less than 12 hours of standby time despite advertising over 3 days! same thing wherever you go online so it wasnt just me ... back to my old nokia now, doesnt take 3 minutes to connect a call, doesnt crash and has 7 days standby time and none of the crappy features i didnt use anyway! Oh and the siemens firmware is shite. Whats the phones firmware like in all?

Well, the camera features will take down the batt life, but other than that it holds out for the complete day for me. I can't really give an exact, cause it stays belted to my side most of the time; and I don't really talk on it much. Just sitting on your side, it will last throughout the day. This is my second RAZR, I had to send the first one back cause after a few weeks, the battery stopped holding charge. Normally, I would go for another model, but I really liked this phone. The second one hasn't had any probs, I've had it for a couple of months now. I did a Google search for ya though, and came up with this review of the phone. http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/motorola-razr-v3-review.html

I have the nokia 6820, and I'm pretty happy with it, except the screenresolution (4096 colors) and the resolution of the cam (CIF cam)is a minor. But this seems fixed in the new model (6822) resolution (65536 colors) and a VGA cam (640 x 480). So that could be my next one.

I carry a motorola V180, average cell life for me is inside or around a 3 month margin, they always seem to break (either water damage, dropping or just crapping out), so I stick with the cheaper ones as most of the damages that i incur are not covered under any warranty. But this one seems to be a real hit, if I could only read FULL emails it'd be great but thats what a PDA, and a laptop are for I guess. (This one is still only about 2 months old, but already has a crack and a few larger chips missing as well as the normal daily scratches etc) I may want to add, that my average cell phone in battery life will last about a business day, but I spend a rather large amount of time on the phone.

I have a small obsession with my Treo 650 -- the features are endless if you know much at all about computers. For example, I can do the following: - Connect to remote computers with VNC or MS Terminal Services - Surf any webpage, download programs, connect to FTPs, etc... - Listen to either music stored on my SD card or via streaming shoutcast stations - Connect to IRC, MSN, Yahoo, etc... - Watch full-length feature films (use headphones when on long flights, or speaker for groups) - Has a camera that can be either used for still-frame shots or in video mode - Uses bluetooth to connect to my GPS device (and can add SDIO wifi card for wardriving capabilities) - Constant connection to email and instant notification of new messages - Still works reliably as a phone, sms device, etc... - Can syncronize with home and work to keep all my contacts, meetings and memos up to date Of course I can still play games, run network security apps, remotely monitor server status, use it as a usb drive, use it as a modem for any other computer with usb or bluetooth, can use it as a bluetooth dongle for unlocking/locking my computer, has long-range IR for using it as a TV remote, etc.... The Treo is by far the best mobile device for power-users. The only downside: this thing is a lot bigger then these just-a-phone devices and when using it as much as I do, the battery does tend to drain pretty fast (needs to be charged roughly twice a day, but does have swappable battery). This sh*t is sick! (sorry, couldn't find a smaller pic)

I have two low-end cell phones. I was thinking of getting a blackberry, but the cell phone in that devices sucks---both the microphone and the receiver and the way they're put on the phone.
So I'm thinking of going to a Treo so I can get email and a phone in one.
I'm not much of a gadget person and don't like recharging things. And I don't like the fact that you can stick a post-it note or papers in a PDA. I do that all day long.
Call me a dinosaur, but I find that the most gadgeted people are the ones that are late to meetings and fail to deliver promised info and projects on time.
Why is that? IMHO, you're either organized or you're not. Unorganized people think that PDAs and the like will organize their day and increase their productivity. Automating your memory (via alarms that remind you to do something like go to a meeting) and your schedule doesn't change the underlying problem for unorganized, distracted people: that is, they're still un-orged and distracted.
That's why I've resisted a PDA; I don't need it to get my work done. I'm only leaning that way so that I can get my email at all times, which is becoming more important as I climb the security staircase. Even so, I'll aways keep my paper day-planner.
The other reason I've resisted gadgets is that I don't feel the need to impress people. Those of you who know me know that I let my work, not my gadgets, do the talking.
Come on, how many of you have what you have just to impress folks?
Sorry to turn a simple question into a ranting speech, but that's the nose for ya.

Beardednose is right. The technology makes our life easier, provides some more "safe" information keeping, since the information kept by humans can be cone spontaneously, but not by the computers, or much slower. O the other hand, more technology makes people stupid and lazy. They don't try to remember things since some automatic alarms will remind them. Another thing is that more features on a high-tech device which is going to be bought impress people and they buy them even though some of these features will never be used or they don't know about what they are. I find it totally senseless that people choose high-tech devices with some features(such as games, java and so on). I personally use Sony Ericsson T610, and don't use much of its features. It's what I could get with my cell phone contractor at the cheapest price since I needed one. It has Java, WAP, GPRS and so on, but I use it for sending SMS and calling people, nothing else. Java and Internet at home is enough for me.

I have a good friend of mine that has had 2 in the span of 2 years and he's fed up with them. 1 was a replacement and this new one is giving him a hard time as well. Thought you might like to know that before you invest your hard earned money on it. QUOTE IMHO, you're either organized or you're not. I just had a discussion with someone over this the other night. I find that those who stick to the regime of step 1, step 2, step 3 in the work process or daily life activities are the ones you d@mn near have to slap in the face to control when they start stressing out because step 4 was taken out of the equation. If I ever get stuck in an elevator with people like that I'm gonna laugh untill my sides hurt and my eyes water cause there gonna be loads of fun for the first 30 minutes. After that I'll have to keep my hands in my pocket or I'll end up sticking a pen in there neck

@Spookie, The Treo would be a business expense. I'd never spend my money on a mobile. But thanks for the heads up. As for 1-4, I used to be like that , but I'm better now. But I'd still put my delivery record up against anyone else's. I think my delivery rate is a big reason that I've kept getting more responsibility and more money. The reason I'm the security guy in my company is becuase the last one delivered very little. When we were sized up, they moved the other guy out.

(sorry, couldn't find a smaller pic) I have an obsession with my Treo 650 as well, but I purchased the unlocked GSM version. I got sick and tired of "contract-bullying". It also gave me flexibility whenever I would travel, namely S. Korea, Guam, Philippines, and to a certain degree, Iraq. Normally, I would never have spent so much on a mobile, but I admit my curiousity got the better of me: I was tired of juggling my old Nokia and Palm M505--I was looking for a convenient alternative. Other than explaining to my wife why I spent so much on it (she was pissed and didn't talk to me for days), I really have no regrets over it. The pda phone just really eased itself into my work and personal tempo.
