Full Version: Tor

"Tor: An anonymous Internet communication system
Tor is a toolset for a wide range of organizations and people that want to improve their safety and security on the Internet. Using Tor can help you anonymize web browsing and publishing, instant messaging, IRC, SSH, and more. Tor also provides a platform on which software developers can build new applications with built-in anonymity, safety, and privacy features."

I've been using Tor for quite some time now - I even totally changed my computer set-up so that I could run a WinXP Tor server.

There isn't a site in the world that can detect who I really am or where I'm really coming from when using Tor (I've checked them all).

If you haven't played with this thing yet, you really ought to give it try. (It's free, of course). Pete

That's good to know - unfortunately, "Tor" is too short a term to do a proper "Search" here for.

Good to know everyone's using the latest version (v.0.1.0.8-rc for windows users') and hopefully every one of you that can are also running servers to help spread the load and increase everyone's anonymity! Pete

something this cool can always be mentioned twice smile.gif

one thing most seem to forget, is that everybody can run a server for tor, which means everyone can run a server and sniff the traffic. the traffic from client to tor server is crypted, but from tor server to real website or whatever it isn't as long as you aren't visiting e.g. a website using ssl. that's one disadvantage of tor compared to other anonymity projects like JAP where the servers are checked by (a) independent organisation(s) and it's not possible for everybody to add a server. btw, jap has somehow tor impleneted, don't know how it's exactly working, but i think JAP then is used for http and tor for the rest.
