Has anyone used the Outpost firewall?
http://www.agnitum.com/products/outpost/The review I read said that it blocks everything does not even let websites know what browser you are using.
If someone has used this I would like to know how it has worked out for you.

I tested dozens of FWs. All i can say outpost is one of the best for power users. Works like charm, no cpu rampage shi t like some others.

I use Kaspersky Anti-Hacker, I have never tried outpost..
I don't think it would matter whether or not websites knew what browser you were using because it is not like spyware websites detect what browser your using then load the appropriate exploit to infect you.....at least I don't know of any.

I use it, better then almost everything else except "check point filewall" and thats an over kill if you are not running a big network.

Salvia,
This firewall has some great pro and some cons.
Using it, it takes about 6~14mb of ram only with the Attack Detection plugin enabled (the other plugins I completly removed (blocking ADs, dns, etc).
Like the other guys, I also think its a good firewall. It is very flexible and you can add rules for anything like blocking IP/subnet after port scans.
If you are going to install it at someone's not very skilled to computers, it could be a problem if not configured properly, since it will warm and ask what to do for everything. Their forums has pre-made configs for a good range of applications to make your life easier though.

Well I installed the pro version and tested it out for a while, I am only on a P3 box and when I join a channel on irc like #proxy that has mass text output the cpu maxes out almost freezing my computer. Uninstalled it and computer is still acting all jacked up. web pages are now loading slow as hell.
Guess it does not get along with Win Media Center Edition very well.
P.S. I did disable all the xtra mods DNS ect. I am going to go with Sygate that has to be the least CPU intensive firewall I have ever used.
Norton blows a@@ it is the most cpu intensive peace of crap out there. 2005 bogs down my P4 2.8 with a gig of ram

i have tested both outpost and sygate for quite some time on my p3 box . both aree good but i like outpost better .
btw have a look on outpost forum they say it eats more cpu sometimes but u have to update mdac(not sure) to make it run better .Also disable logging in outpost and it should work great with hardly any ram eaten . disable stupid browser plugins and use adblock extension with ffox .. or block them HOSTS way
Btw sygate eats more ram and cpu then outpost
disable logging and latest version of outpost and it will work fine ..

I don't have any problems running Outpost Firewall.
It's a great application, that have some neat features like DNS Cache, ad-blocking, awesome rule-setting wizard, very detailed logging on both attacks, and connection attempts. I can't say more than I would recommend it. When you first have configured for your needs, it works like a charm.
I have not yet tried where it stole all my CPU, that's more likely my KAV AV. Heh.

i now use outpost pro for 6 month and i don't had a problem.
the only thing i don't like is that some options are hidden for me,
i'm too stupid to find them fast

but it is the best firewall i used. I just know one injection methode
that bypasses this fw.

if you can write your own rules, I recommend CHX-I firewall. its free for individual use and there are some preconfigured rulesets available.

Well it was definitly a conflict with windows media center edition 2005, I just tried Outpost on XP Pro and I am not experiencing the cpu problems that I was with MCE

i've been using outpost for several months. it's a good product to start with. many features and do stuff as intended. but i notice lately that it keeps on breaking down lately, may be due to heavy traffic my pc have.
and now, i'm using kerio server firewall. it's also another great product.
try them both.

I'm a big fan of outpost, It can get a little annoying with component control and occasionally hidden process alerts that are false positives, but thats easy to fix in the options. I like how it warns you about one program altering the memory of another - good for detecting those nasty trojans that like to inject themselves into things.

outpost is good but its a pain in the arse cos when you install you need to spend time configuring everything
i prefer sygate pro to any other firewall cos it is rock solid reliable and needs no configuration other than allowing or denying access when you are prompted to do so

In my opinion AgnitiumOutpost Firewall remains the best. There are many features and plugins that make the soft very efficient. I appriciated Sygate, i loved kerio but i adopted Agnitium.

yup last time i installed outpost i had problems with a few ports being left unstealthed
it took 20-30mins to sort it out
sygate is just way more convenient

Another little annoyance - the attack detection will dectect portscans you are preforming and then block that ip for five minutes, claiming its a rst attack, too many ack packets i think... so it can muck up some scans without you knowing, but I just disable the attack detection, it isn't very useful.

I personally prefer Look'n'stop over outpost. It is very configurable, it uses less sistem resources and ofers at least a comparable protection. At the leak tests it performs better than outlook
