Comsec,
Didn't you already have a special place in your heart for the service you rec'd from Dell? This should just add fuel to your fire. LOL

QUOTE
Dell has rejected allegations that its PCs come pre-loaded with an intrusive application that spies on users' surfing habits. The equipment manufacturer said there was nothing untoward about My Way Search Assistant despite complaints from customers that the toolbar impairs computer performance, changes browser settings and is difficult to remove.

Here's the original link to the rest of the story...

Register Article - Dell Rejects spyware allegations

Tsk..tsk..tsk...Dell should've just sunk that money into more reefer for their mascot. ROFL. Sorry Dell dudes. laugh.gif

lol...anything i get from dell for self or clients has a complete re-format and a fresh installed OS...its my policy "Never trust anyone when it comes to your computer"

at least what you install after a re-format ..you only have yourself to blame if you infect with a virii or install spyware.

as for customer support... they want to sort that fiasco out also ... totally useless

Ya think some people would have learned by now that you get what you pay for?
Nowadays with customer support and manufacturing going overseas you have to ask the question; "Is this the kind of company that I want to do business with?".
This whole thing just completely dissappoints me with DELL. First Gateway [don't get me started] now DELL. So who is next anyway? Time to meet the local mom and Pop shop and get that home built good ol USA product again.

How sad is it that we have to format computers after we buy them from the manufactueres with preloaded operating systems?
ComSec
my main gripe will Dell edward5...

is customer support .... i phoned several times over a laptop and desktop computer orders.... only to be transfered to India and guys who can hardly speak english...

most of the time i had to use the phonetic alphabet to spell it out... then i made another call and was put through to some woman in Italy....yet again the language barrier appeared ....

i was spending up to and over an hour ... in holding to get to a support worker... really pissed me of....seeing i live in the UK ... and like most of us we want to talk to our own countrymen who could solve the problems in minutes

i have had 6 computers from Dell in various orders in the past client specifications... but tell you what ...never again

i have now switched to Toshiba for notebooks and yet to find another outlet for desktops.... i might switch back to Hi-Grade for clients ..at least i had no hassle from them apart from Dell were cheaper so i switched

Dell is not the only OEM in this, HP desktop computers come loaded with "questionable" software too.

One experience I had with my new HP Pavillion is that there was an annoying HP toolbar ontop of explorer windows; when removed it would reappear the next boot. I found a file starting up in msconfig called autoTbar.exe that was causing all customization on the toolbar to be reset.

I consider this some form of ad-ware promoting HP software. dry.gif

I spent 31 months out of work because of my job being shipped overseas, do you think I'm ungrateful about my european neighbors...damn straight! It cost me my lively hood. After 21 years in the business In the next week I will be changing careers to work in the medical industry in the public sector. So I am in morning over a very fruitful and personal rewarding career that has come to an end.

I will still be the neighborhood Geek and spending times reading forums like this, but the weekly seminars and world wide travel is over.

For those of you still priveledge to still be working in the industry I certainly hope you don't ruin it for future generations. I started in IBM370 keypunch and VAX stations and BanYan lines. So I speak old school and from deep inside the trenches. So be considerate of those coming in.

For me its on to new adventures and a whole new world,...and a paycheck.

A bit off topic but I am not exactly sure where to put this. So I am going to let it stay.

Sorry about the horrible RANT. Got some hate mail to go with it but I guess I had that comin. Just the word DELL got me so worked up. I have seen this problem in the states and it just got to me.

If I offended anyone of our oversea friends I do apologize, I do not hate any of you just DELL. Please find it in your database to forgive me.

Its just a BOX not a person.

Im so glad to know about Dell.
I would not buy from Dell.

thats why I always reformat any new computers I get.

Well, looks like I got a topic out that ramped some folks up. LOL. Glad to have started a motivating subject. If no one takes anything else from this little section, take this...
With regards to box security...trust no one but yourself. If my security is going to be hosed, I want myself to blame.

**Funny part was I mainly shot this to get a rise from Com Sec based on his awesome customer service in a previous thread. LOL**

Smiles everyone!
