You've got your favorite, I'm sure, please let us know which one, and why.

So far, I like Auditor but WHAX is looking like it might be the new standard. Why? Tutorial videos. It's very easy to pick up something you've already seen in action, and WHAX and Whoppix have plenty of videos that recount the exploits in a very simple format.

What do you think?

I prefer Auditor because I have mostly used the bootable linux distros for the ease of preconfigured wireless network cards. I have an Atheros chipset card, and to use packet injection some tinkering with the kernel and patching is required, but the patches have already been applied in Auditor. I used it to test the security of my WEP at home, and needless to say with packet injection it was cracked under 10 minutes, WPA for me now. I like Whoppix as well, I find it is more versatile than Auditor, and to me Knoppix STD did not measure up to either Whoppix or Auditor.

Yeah I've heard Knoppix STD has fallen behind others, but I figured there might be some die-hards that still swore by it.

Using Whoppix 2.6 Public, doesnt use the correct ORiNOCO Drivers, Auditor Does... But Whoppix has more pre compiled exploits that I usually CBF downloading when i need them...

I run linux as a desktop OS on my lappy anyway - so most live cd's done have much value to me...
LittleHacker
I've used knoppix-std, phlak, whoppix (2.6 & 2.7) and whax-3.0 (beta3 & final).
I've got these:
all of them are good kits but
knoppix-std and phlak has no exploit archive with them. So in an isolated LAN ...
Whoppix 2.6 has some exploit archive with it version 2.7 is more user friendly.
whax is very simllar to whoppix but it's modular and you can easily add your own modules to it.
I've no idea about Auditor.
UmInAsHoE
i have used them all... alot, i prefer whoppix 2.6, though back in the day knoppix-std was an excelent distro. Only just found that whoppix changed to whax o.O need to get updated...

I Love Knoppix-Std, But its become heavier and old ... needs much work to be done.
I love to work with Auditor.. its really clean and in times of emergency , when you go crazy u can still find what you are looking for with ease.
We shouldnt forget Pentrix a good distro by one of our Gso'ers itself.
But i still swear by Knoppix-Std

To date it is Auditor, but Whax has the latest aircrack and a few other utilities that make wifi pen testing mre convenient. Whats best is you can carry them all and use the one thats best for you for whatever situation you might be in.
beardednose
ONLY Auditor has a tut for it, written by your very own covertnose.

@BN, good point. LOL One must consider sources when perusing tutorials.

I think that WHAX will become one of the new more used boot discs because as mentioned it has the tutorials on how to use its features. it comes very well built out of the box, you really dont need to worrie that much about will it work it works with most computers unlike phlak or knoppix-std which dose not work with my desktop but WHAX dose, but one of its draw bakcs might be its size needed in ram to run it. I have a laptop with only 32mB of ram and i do not think it will boot up in my laptop but phlak boots up very well with it and it has a very good asortment of tools just as well. so really in a case like this i dont think their is one disc that fits all needs but for my money i would go with WHAX and PHLAK.

for me myself Whoppix works better than even Whax
LittleHacker
I'm wonder why Whoppix 2.7 does not support firewalk !
GSecur
I am pretty sure that firewalk was replaced by hping2

i like Knoppix, but lately i've been expirimenting with Operator and i must say a pretty cool program.

(if someone is interrested take a look h**p://www.ussysadmin.com/operator/ )

I love Whax. The only thing I'm missing in all these CD's is prgasnarf / WEPwedgie. Christophe's aircrack/airreplay is excellent, but does not support shared auth, only open.

Or maybe I haven't tryed enough auditcd's yet. Anyone know of versions that include both wepwedgie and airreplay?

Till then I've tried Auditor and KcPentrix
I thought KcPentrix is the grand father of WHAX. cause based on Slax and used .mo file wink.gif
But about Auditor, It's simillar to whoppix 2.7 with some more tools. (whoppix has some useless tut that got the cd space)

Careful there, tuts are hard to write, useless or not. I've heard the same about the Auditor tut (ooooouuucchh!).

I prefer Auditor, because it has good hardware support in its last version. Even if it doesn't support something, you can install it into HD with running one written script, and then you can add a new kernel easily, then you have everything for a flexible Linux.
This besides, Auditor also has Wine, which allows the users to run Windows applications, too. I didn't get much problems with it, even though I didn't configure Wine. This can also be seen as a plus point for Auditor.
BTW, If talking about Auditor, it must be talked about Kanotix, too, since Auditor is based on it. Auditor is an enhanced version of Kanotix, and Kanotix itself is a distribution which is based on Knoppix.
