Why?GSO turns three this year so it seams like the best time for us to try and arrange the first ever meeting of the GSO "Horde". WhereWell in New York City of course! Most likely in the atrium of the Citigroup Building. Why there? Well because it is right next to my job and I am lazy Also it is easy to get to, via subway. When?September 23, 2005 @ 5:30pm EST till whenever you leave, though I think the Citigroup atrium closes at 9. After which some of us "older" gentlemen will go and grab some beers from the local pub. What We NeedWe would like to have some people give a discussion on something so if you have a topic you want to give a presentation on send me a PM. What This Won't BeOrganized - Basically there won't be much order, just a bunch of people hanging out for a bit. What this CAN'T BeDon't be a fool and get your self in trouble while screaming "Don't arrest me I am a member of GSO", don't do anything illegal because I will not be responsible for what you do.

I would love to come there, but the thing is GSO is widely spread, and for me there is like a few thousend kilometers. Maybe if there will be a meeting in Europa.
Possible some of the discussings will be recorded, and published on GSO site?

I once thought of such a meeting, too. It's a nice idea for letting the members know each other better, but the problem is that not many members might come, since the members do any other things in this time(school, important projects etc.). Another important thing is that most members live in different countries than USA, and can have problems with coming there, visa trouble for example, still a lot of countries have problems with American visas. Some members are able to come certainly. Some will come. But since GSO is an "international" security forum, I guess only 5 percent of the members are from USA, or maybe less. Anyway, it would be a good idea for making a live video for the members who aren't able to come there but still want to. Accesses given could be as follows: -Open proxies are blocked. -IP addresses in USA (since they are able to come) will also be blocked to avoid them making lazy.

OI!! I disagree with the Blocking of USA I.P. addresses, i'm in the U.S. and can't come because i'll have school during that time period. That, and because I would feel overwhelmed from all the knowledge everyone else would have over me And...i'm a few states over But it would be cool to have something like this every year...like a White/Black hat convention? Where both groups get together in one area and argue lol

Nice be like the next defcon called GSOcon. If I did not have to work that friday I take a drive down from Philly and meet up it sounds like you want ot hold it the same place the NYC 2600 holds meetings.

Aug 4 2005, 04:17 PM
Yep it's the same place, it's easy to get to and right next to me

dangit why is everything always across the country. I am in CA. Have a huge Video Conference so we can all sit in and add 0ur 2cents in everything. The GSOCon. I second that! Also I like the idea of the recording too. And I also disagree with blocking USA Ip addresses as I live in the USA. If you decide to setup some kind of video conference I will defently set aside the time. I just cannot afford to fly to NY right now.

I would love to go being that I am a couple of hours away. Definitley would like more people to show up or at least have some sort of plan of what we are going to talk about or do. Sorry its the over compulsive in me. But def a good idea. We should set up a video confrence that way the people in Europe and USA could interact and nobody is left out.

Besides, I don't have anything to wear!

I'll have to pass. I'm close to 2000 miles away, and I can't really justify flying/driving all the way out there for a few hours. Have a beer for me though.

I've been waiting for something like this for months! Unfortunately, I have no idea how I would justify this to my parents, so it's a no-go for me :/ I could get over there for free (Bahaha, parent working for an airline), but the justification is the hard part. Oh, well...A couple more years and I'll be out of the house

OH, i don't know what to say, since the day i join GSO, i don't know why i have always dreamed of one day we will meet each other and getting to know each other better. But in US is not an option for me and i am sure that members in GSO scatter all around the world so i wish you guys have good time at the meeting. I can't come because it is too far away and i have school as well . Is that possible to organise another meeting in Europe?

How about an IRC meeting first?
I'd actually be interested. I've never been to New York, and I'm interested in what the cost would be to go there from the Midwest. I have a feeling I don't get paid enough to stop by for even a week. I'm certainly interested though, I'll talk to my roommates about it.

Defcon pays for all expenses of the persons speaking. Wanna make the same offer? I'm broke but I'd speak on any topic you want :> Otherwise, can't fly there :/

Aug 5 2005, 03:08 PM
LOL, can't foot the bill for everyone guys since this is only a meeting to see who will show up and not a convention. Depending on how things workout will determine if a con is even possible.
How about this, if we get 10 guys, I will pay for the pizza.

Aug 5 2005, 04:35 PM
Hey G!
I would love to come if I had any other business in the US aswell.. However I live in Sweden, so travelling about half the planet for a convention would be a bit overkill. Perhaps we could arrange some in Europe some day, then I'll definately show up.
By the way; Is there some possibility to engage in a multi-user webcam conference? Does anyonw know of an application to do that? (That is, you can see all of the participators in your window, and they can see eachother and yourself..) Say connecting 10 people to a webcam server or something, and that way having a live cross-country videoconference.. Just a thought =)
Cheers

GSecur I would luv to make it (and whos to say - I still might), but it is a little hard for me to foot the travel time for only a few hours of "hang out" time.
I know some of my co-horts are gonna be there and thats all the more reason for me to go ...so we shall see.
WHEN this turns into a Con - count me in for sure.
GSO can start a con ever other year in NYC (have it the opposite years of 2600s HOPE con)
...moving forward im about 3 hrs south of NYC - if there is anything I could do to help oganization wise - let me know
crock
Aug 7 2005, 12:59 AM
Maybe a future(istic) idea: we could do different meetings at different places all over the world at the same time (which will be a little odd with all the different time zones and so ) and then link them together by videoconferencing on a big screen or so

I propose to do meeting not in real world but in a virtual space such as IRC of GSO or even a video conf. Just need a timing plan & I think most of ppl will attend

That is great idea, knowing each other.... huih great...and nice But I cannot be there because I from south east asia and most of south east asia people will have many problem to get US Visa... I suggest for who cant come to the meeting still be connected with instant messenger or video converence (maybe Yahoo messenger with webcam) or.... so it will be a nice party....

I can see that everyone wants to do a video conference. I am going to take a look at few options such as using skype.
But as for this meet it is just an excuse to get together and have some fun, also to test out how many people will come out. I am sure that more people would come out if it was a con, but hey we have to start some where.

Well as far as a full out Conferencing system, Why not make it a GSO Coding project? I usually fly once every few months anyways, so if I can clear my er schedule, I will try and make it.

But good luck for this first meeting.
