THis not the best of news. Nessus is what helped me get started in *nix. That, and Whoppix & Auditor boot CDs.

Will it update? I'll have to check it out and pit against the *nix dude.

I'll have to agree with you there. I without a doubt prefer to use linux (gentoo)...but what can you do. Sometimes you just have to use a windows box and sometimes you just wish it had nessus on it.

if anybody here wants it but also hates filling in those stupid forms just to download the files can go here:

This was a link posted in bugtraq. The author of the post says:

For the integrity of the binaries you just have to trust my word that
I have not modified the archives in any way, although the Cenzic guys
never posted any checksums or GPG signatures to verify the integrity
of the archives.

In any case. They look clean to me. If you want to take your chances by all means go for it.

of course, nessus has been in windows form for many years. the name of the port is NeWt. But it isn't free.

NewT was there for a long time .. was using it since its very inception, Its a different tool altogether... But I too prefer Nessus with Debian .
But as he said , sometimes you need to use only windows and u wish you had it smile.gif

I don't consider Newt to be as good as *nix Nessus....Newt is free if you only scan the subnet you're on; can't go any further.

For onsite security testing of remote sites, it works fine; you just have to move around.

@Dater_

Are you connecting with the appropriate encyption selected? Nessus gives you several options. If there's other options in Windows, try those.

I tried Newt once and was definitely not impressed. It was definitely never up to par with the *nix version.
