Full Version: Sms Alert
onlinepass
Hi all

I had to develop a component that checks my Outlookexpress Mailbox and when ever a new mail comes up...it has to send me a SMS to a set number.

is there any way of doing this. or we already have these kinds of tools?

onlinepass,

ive looked into performing a similar task before but in my case it was sending an SMS from a server to a mobile phone, however same priniciple applies.

this was some time ago so things may have changed but from what I discovered its pretty difficult to carry out on your own as you need an SMS Gateway and a GSM modem which is used to send the message out via a serial cable.

an alternative approach to this is to use a third party which you send a message to via email and they will then deliver it in text format to your mobile phone via SMS. these 3rd parties will however come at a price, im sure a few google searches would reveal some companies who offer this service.

I think there are already pre-written objects out there out there to help you with the grunt work if you decide to develop on your own but the difficulty seems to arise in the hardware side of things.

anyway in the end i abandonded the SMS way and implemented a different solution. as i said this was a fair amount of time ago so things may have changed but hopefully ive given you a starting point.

greetings

xOx is ryt, some mobile phone service provider offers mail services tru txt and u'll get something like (09123823@provider.com). But usually this services are not for free, so u really have to spent some penny..man.
If ur really wanna get it for free try to find free GSM gateway (I dont know if there are any), coz last year my fren gave my this gateway no. and I was able to send SMS for free for a month.
if found one or u'll set-up ur own gateway...let me know online pass..

Hope this helps....

Some sites allow you to send SMS through their site. I think ..the mobile phone service provider has a SMS gateway through which SMS can be sent over the internet. But like all good things in life...i guess they cost $$$ biggrin.gif
MrRobot
AOL/AIM allows you to send ims to a sms #, and its as a textmsg ..
Bomb'd a cell from this method, the person was pretty pissed off.. tongue.gif biggrin.gif
I forget the exact prefix, but its like +1[areacode + number]

the best way is to use a gateway or paid services. i think using free sms on those messenger is not reliable as i've done some coding on it

Ok,Here is how to do in VB.
Get a POP email checker code and a SMS Sender Code from http://www.planetsourcecode.com.
Combine the two sources and add the functionallity the whenever you get a new message in INBOX the sms sending code should be fired.
Have Fun
