$99 Acer Aspire One from Radio Shack

It has been confirmed that RadioShack is indeed selling the Acer Aspire One for $99. Which is a fantastic deal, but just like any offer that seems too good to be true there is a small caveat to the deal is that you have to sign up for a data contract through AT&T to get the low $99 dollar price. So basically they are offering the same sort of subsidized contract that they would offer when selling a brand-new Blackberry. Now at first you might think that this is a groundbreaking sale but in actuality it makes a lot of sense. A brand-new Blackberry will cost you approximately $500 without a contract. That's right over $500 for just a Blackberry phone. The lower cost that you are used to seeing it because you are forced to sign a two-year contract with the mobile provider. This is basically the same deal.

AT&T wants you to sign up for their data plan and since the Acer Aspire One is normally about $400 they are basically making the same spread that they would normally offer on a smart phone. One thing to $99 acer aspire one radio shack at&tremember with the $99 Acer Aspire deal you are only getting 3G data service that is tied to the Netbook. Over the life of the two-year commitment you will wind up spending about $1500. Way over the cost of actually buying a Acer Aspire One from any other retailer. Also that is a much more expensive proposition than buying the Netbook and then paying for a tethering plan on your phone to use it as a 3G enabled device. But some many people may find the deal attractive. There are some extra details about the Acer Aspire One.

The lightweight, 2.44-pound netbook includes 1GB memory, 160GB hard drive, built-in memory card readers and Windows XP software that supports the portable connectivity needs of commuters, students, travellers and mobile professionals. This allows everyone to keep in touch via email, participate in social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter, use the built-in Web cam and crystal-clear LCD screen for video conferencing with family, friends and business associates, conduct online research, and a host of other online functions. But wait don't expect to be getting a top quality battery at this level of a price point. The most time that you are going to get on this device is approximately 2 hours of battery life and that is without wireless enabled. Places where your 3G connection is receiving lower reception which will cause the battery to be used more to boost the signal will reduce the amount of time you have on the go by even more.
