Asus is one of those companies that got a lucky break by offering a product that was out of their normal spec and getting big financial returns. By offering the Asus Eee PC line Asus was able to get the name of the PC peripheral company well known amongst the general consumer. Unfortunately the marketing department of Asus has decided that they can continue their success by expanding their "Netbook line" by offering a gaming enabled netbook. But calling something a gaming Netbook doesn't make it one.
The first thing that makes a gaming Netbook a gaming device is the processor and unfortunately the Intel atom processor doesn't exactly boast the highest speed for playing your favorite games on a small portable device. The Intel Atom N270 CPU is fine if you want to surf websites and other documents at great speed but going beyond that is an extreme stretch. And the fact that the Asus N10J only comes with approximately 1 GB of RAM limits and even more especially when running Windows Vista.Test using Unreal Tournament III. showed that the netbook was able to get 29 frames per second, but the resolution had to be down to all the way to 800x600 which doesn't exactly give you an impressive gaming experience. In fact the resolution is way below the native resolution of the Asus N10J Gaming Netbook which is 1,024x600. Also don't expect even close to this sort of performance when playing on battery power since the Intel atom processor cuts to an even lower megahertz when running in portable mode.
Our suggestion to Asus is to not stumble too far away from its core roots. Continue to put out quality netbooks like to Asus Eee PC line. Since the market is already saturated with quality budget gaming laptops. They'll offer an acceptable gaming experience for those that truly wants device is a portable method for getting some frags online.
