Digg.com, the mother of all social book marking sites. Currently ranked 80 in alexa. Using digg correctly can single handedly launch your site from no traffic to tens of thousands of visitors in one day. But to achieve these results you have to use it right. So let's get to it.
If you're going to use digg to launch your site you have got to remember that digg.com is a community, feed them rich content and you will be a celebrity. People will read what you post not because they want to but simply because you were the one that posted it. At the other end of the spectrum if you feed them garbage they will turn against you by burying your stories and leaving comments which can be harsh to say the least. Becoming successful on digg will not be an easy achievement, it will take time, you must network and build relationships with other digg members. Each member that considers you a "friend" will see a green ribbon on all stories you've submitted, this will make all of your posts stand out which will result in more visitors to each and every submission. You must also be cautious when submitting new stories, you must follow a few steps when submitting stories to ensure quality feedback and potential frontpage glory. 1.) You MUST submit quality content, mind you everyone is going to submit a flop now and then but if you continually submit garbage you will go nowhere. 2.) When submitting this "quality content" you have to make sure you have a catchy title, in my experience question format is the most successful. As long as the title catches your eye it should catch theirs. 3.) Make sure you have a short to the point description, between 20 and 40 words should do, this will tell the reader exactly what they want to know without making them feel like they are reading an essay. 4.) Make absolutely sure you have submitted your page to the correct category, if your page contains a video of Derek Jeter catching a foul ball behind his back with his hat, clearly this video shouldn't be submitted to the technology section, this along with everything else in this article can make or break your submission. Plain and simple if you submit anything to the wrong category it will get buried and be a waste of your time. If you follow these guidelines it will give you a good starting point when it comes to submitting your pages, in some cases when these steps are followed you may see an influx of up to 10,000% in your daily traffic, that should easily convert to more members, clicks, sales or whatever it is your site relies on. Keep in mind if you do make the frontpage of digg.com the traffic will be heavy and brief, most of the time it will last less then a day, but 50 000 people may make it through to your site in that amount of time. Be prepared make sure you have your adsense optimized and your server will be able to handle the load, there is nothing worse then sending 50,000 people to a dead end.
