Okay the title can be a bit misleading. Since most people who hear the news announcements that TiVo is now offering application for the iPhone are going to think that they can view their recorded TV shows on their iPhone. Unfortunately that is not the case we are going to have to wait for Slingbox to finally get that option. But what we do get is the ability to schedule TiVo recordings directly from our iPhone to our device at home.
So let's say you're on the bus surfing the web and you notice an advertisement for a pretty good show that you're interested in seeing. You can easily just log onto the Mobi mobile TiVo application for the iPhone is scheduled the show to be recorded and hopefully be waiting for you when you get home. Also lets say that you discover that there might be a conflict on your recordings and one of your new shows may not be recorded because you have your 1000th episode of Law and order scheduled. Easily adjust the scheduling right on the TiVo application for the iPhone. This is the first time that TiVo is offering a mobile DVR programming service subscription free and available for any phone with a mobile browser — including the iPhone.
Did I just say that? Did I just say that the service is available to any phone that supports a mobile browser? Yes I did. That basically makes this announcement even less amazing. Obviously TiVo was announcing this hoping to get some additional spinoff of the iPhone name. When are they going to realize that they just need to put their run-of-the-mill product out to pasture and figure out a new business model.
