No word yet on what carrier may be carrying the device but many people are speculating that it will be either Verizon or Sprint. image

Okay the title can be a bit misleading. Since most people who hear the news announcements that TiVo is now offering application for the iPhone are going to think that they can view their recorded TV shows on their iPhone. Unfortunately that is not the case we are going to have to wait for Slingbox to finally get that option. But what we do get is the ability to schedule TiVo recordings directly from our iPhone to our device at home.

Use Gmail on Your Desktop Gmail Gadget

No one can argue that Google has been putting allot behind Gmail these days.  With the additions of Google Tasks and also remote calendar and contacts syncing with Apple, you can see Google is attempting to bring an entire suite of productivity apps to the consumer.  One thing that I have always wanted is a way to have my entire GMail inbox on my desktop but not have to use a third party email software program like Outlook.  Well now you can have GMail loaded on your desktop using a GMail Gadget for the Google Desktop Suite.

First thing to remember is that this is a Gadget for Google desktop.  That means you must get a copy of Google Desktop loaded which is of course a free application that you can download from the Google website here.  Once you have that installed you can then download the latest version of the Gmail Gadget here.

Use Gmail on Your Desktop Gmail Gadget Once you have the software loaded and installed the configuration process is really easy.  You just login to your account.  Can't really get easier then that.  Now you can use the Gmail Gadget to launch your account integrated into your account.  Now start to think that is an outlook replacement for your Gmail account because it isn't.  But some people mad find it alot more convenient to have the application interact as an application rather then just a tab inside of a web browser.  Also if you want you can run more then one copy of the application, so you can have 2 GMail accounts signed in at the same time.

Though it has it's limitations the software does cover the basics such as reading, searching, and sending messages. You can star messages, use the same keyboard shortcuts and we didn't forget about contact auto-complete. It doesn't take up much space in your sidebar or desktop, and you can also resize it to show as few or as many messages as you'd like.  Also for quickly switching to your Google Gmail Gadget you can just hit the Shift Button Twice.

As always Google has done a pretty good job with the Gmail Gadget.  But I was left wanting more. Lets combine all of the Google service into one application.  It would just be a great business move for Google and a big win for users.
