VoIP for iPod Touch: 2.2 Adds Recording Capability |
The IPod touch has never had the ability to use VOIP applications since the iPod touch does not have a built-in microphone like the iPhone. Obviously seeing a need for the hardware a lot of manufacturers created microphones that could be added to the iPod touch via the docking station connectors at the bottom of the device. Unfortunately even though the hardware was created for the problem many of these recording and microphone add-ons still did not work. When adding them to the iPod touch usually do not number of errors.
Supposedly with the release of firmware 2.2 for the Apple touch that problem has now been rectified. Previously where users get errors when connecting external microphones said pieces of hardware now work flawlessly. This obviously opens up the possibility for additional voice over IP software packages such as Skype or the audio conferencing capabilities of AOL Instant Messenger or Google chat.
Nimbuzz has released a free application available through the iPhone App store that lets users call, chat and send and receive instant messages using Skype, Yahoo! Messenger,Facebook, MySpace, AIM, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ and Jabber. IM buddy calling over Wi-Fi is also available to Yahoo, Google Talk, Skype and Windows Live Messenger.
